This is just so beautiful.
This is just so beautiful.
Today we proudly provide you with some of that Funky Stuff and as a bonus MORE Funky Stuff. We know ya’ll can dig that! This anthemic party starter from Kool & the Gang’s fantastic, ultra funky 1973 Wild and Peaceful album is definitely one of the ALL-Time Infinite Jones Party JAMS. A perfect way to start your day. Enjoy.
The brilliant Mr. Show makes cultural appropriation funny. Eww Girl, eww. Enjoy.
Credited to Fred Wesley and the J.B.’s on the cover of the 1974 Damn Right I Am Somebody album but, produced by James Brown and featuring him on vocals this song, whoever you credit to, is a Mighty Funk Masterpiece. Ambitious and sprawling, this song has everything from a Capella scat singing to mini play-lets but, it never loses the funk groove thanks to the fantastic playing and enthusiasm of the J. B.’s. One of the lost gems of the James Brown catalogue. Enjoy!
Today we thought we’d bring you something super obscure. This weird Psychedelic artifact is from Phoenix band Kennelmus and their only album a rare private press release called Folkstone Prism (1971). The album is all over the place and occasionally quite enjoyable and clever. This song is the catchiest ear worm of the bunch and we approve of it’s positive message. We know nothing of the provenance of the video but, it is beautiful and freaky/psychedelic and fits the music well. We love it. Hope you will enjoy it too.
We like the sound of Funky Music. It sho ’nuff turns us on. That’s why today we are having a 2-for-1 Funky Music Special. Two, count ’em, two quite different versions of a Norman Whitfield song. First up, the Mighty Temptations:
The Temps original version from their Titanic 1971 All Directions album is deeply funky hand-clappin’, foot stompin’ barn burner. It will shake your house down.
Next:
Patti’s version from her 1977 debut album is a slightly Disco-fied version of the song that nonetheless does not skimp on the Funk and has as a bonus an irresistible guitar line. It will get you dancing and humming.
It’s Election Day in Chicago. Get out there and VOTE!!! Use your POWER.
Soul Singer Joe Simon has Music in his Bones and he can’t sit down. We know how he feels. This irresistible Anthem to the motivating Power of Music from his 1975 Get Down album is definitely an Infinite Jones Theme Song. Crank it up and dance along – you’ll feel better, we guarantee!
It was a year ago yesterday that Chuck Berry passed away. Had this blog existed then we would certainly have marked the day with this beautiful video. Hail, Hail Chuck Berry! Better late than never.
Today we ponder the Mysteries of the Universe with former Television guitarist, Richard Lloyd. The title track from his first solo album released in 1979 wonders if the answers can be found using Alchemy. The relaxed groove and calm, searching vocals indicate that he is more concerned with the process than the actual answers. After all, having a song to sing and a guitar to play is answer enough sometimes.
