Soothe YR Brain

Song of the Day:
Seam – Autopilot

We need a very mellow Song of the Day this morning.  Maybe it is just reverence for it being Sunday morning or, maybe it has something to do with the TWO St. Patty’s Day Partys we attended last night.  Who can say?  But, either way sometimes you just need to turn on the Autopilot and coast a bit.   Fortunately, Seam has the perfect song for that.  This quiet, lovely, downer is from their 1993 The Problem with Me album.  It’s really… well we just don’t feel like thinking about it too much.  How about we just let  the nice music soothe our brains for a while?  Ummmm, that’s nice.

Into the Mystic

Videos o’ the Day:

Van Morrison

Oh Yeah, it’s St. Patty’s day so, of course we are going to feature Van the Man.  Here are a couple of great performances.  Enjoy.

The World Goes ‘Round

Song of the Day:
Bob Schneider – Round & Round

The world keeps turning,  Nothing you can do about that.  You are just spinning around and around whether you want to or not.  This pleasantly melancholy, circular song by Austin based Singer-Songwriter Bob Schneider from his 2001 album Lonelyland takes you along for that ride and maybe makes it a little easier.  We hope it helps you hang on for one more rotation.

History Repeating, Repeating, Repeating

Video of the Day:
Propellerheads featuring Miss Shirley Bassey – History Repeating

This song will always be cool.  It elegantly epitomizes and simultaneously deconstructs the allure of Pop Music.  Featuring state of the art beats and production (circa 1997) by Propellerheads and the Timeless Classiness of Shirley Bassey, it has all the bases covered and is a proper JAM to boot!  We hope you can dig it.

RIP Nokie Edwards of The Ventures

   (Nokie in red)

Nokie Edwards was Lead Guitarist for the legendary group The Ventures for nearly 60 years!  He and his group influenced nearly everyone who has picked up a guitar since 1961.  As a tribute we present their tough version of the Hawaii 5-0 theme.  It has a dynamite video, too. (For more on Mr. Edwards see Rolling Stone’s obit, here.)

Burnin’ Desire

Song of the Day:
The Elvis Brothers – Burnin’ Desire

Today’s rockin’, rowdy Song of the Day comes to us courtesy of The Elvis Brothers.  This absolutely shoulda-been-Hit Single comes from their terrific 1985 album Adventure Time.  It’s irresistibly catchy chorus and Pure Power Pop exuberance should have taken these deserving young lads to the top of the charts.  Alas, it was not to be but, they left behind 3 great albums ripe for rediscovery and many happy memories for those who were lucky enough to see them live.   Elvis Brothers, we salute you!
