Try Some of This Stuff

Song of the Day:
Alex Chilton – Stuff

Here’s a hidden gem from Alex Chilton‘s ragged and all too haphazard solo career.  It’s a funky, slightly salacious shuffle from the 1985 Feudalist Tarts EP, perhaps Alex’s most solid post Big Star effort.  Alex actually seems to be trying and even enjoying himself for once, and that and the tight New Orleans style horn section make this laid back groove a real charmer.  Enjoy.

The Father of Cubism

Video of the Day:
The Special Guests – Paul Cezanne, the Father of Cubism

This educational little ditty is a special favorite of the Infinite Jones crew.  It always causes happy bouncing about the room and joyous sing-a-longs with it’s catchy chorus whenever it comes on.  The Cubistic animation of the guitar solo also provides much joy.  We do not know much at all about this band.  Googling “Special Guests” doesn’t turn up much useful info.  But, we are sure that it is our favorite New Wave song about the Father of Cubism!  So, dig this and you might just learn something, too!

Ain’t Got the Fever No More

Song of the Day:
Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes – I Ain’t Got the Fever No More

Steve Van Zandt wrote this answer song to last night’s Video of the Day song The Fever (by Bruce Springsteen, as noted).  From the Jukes 1977 album This Time It’s for Real, it has the confident, relaxed groove of one no longer burdened by obsession and features some fine harmonica by Southside.  Enjoy.

Southside Johnny Rocks SCTV

Video of the Day:
SouthSide Johnny And the Asbury Jukes Sing the Fever on SCTV

The Jukes own this Springsteen tune on an episode of SCTV.  Southside handles the acting with aplomb, too.  Enjoy.

Strike Up the Band!

Song of the Day:
Warren Zevon – Johnny Strikes Up the Band

Let’s start things of right this week with this great first track from Warren Zevon‘s classic 1978 Excitable Boy album.  Waddy Wachtel and Danny Kortchmar’s churning, chiming guitars and Warren’s tough but, tender vocals make this one an Infinite Jones favorite.  Jubilation in the land, indeed!

This was a fun little exercise.  We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.  (Had to cheat a little for the “X”.)

Bonus:  The Three Stooges Swingin’ The Alphabet

Just for the Heck of it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Willie NILE!!!

Video of the Day:
Willie Nile – Love Is a train

We LOVE Willie Nile.  If you have never seen him live, you are really missing out on something special.  He and his band put on a show that rivals any performer you can name.  Willie is small in stature but, has an enormous heart and incredibly generous spirit.  He is the antidote for what ails you.  He will renew your faith in Rock and Roll and, hell, Humanity in general.  Seriously, go see Willie if you get the chance.  You won’t regret it.
