Who Are The Romeos?

Song of the Day:
The Romeos – Let Go Tonight

There are more than a few groups calling themselves The Romeos, including one with Leon Huff and Lamont Dozier but, these Romeos aren’t any of them.  We can find very little about them, no wiki, nothing much at AllMusicGuide but, since there is an Internet, they do have a web page, here.  This 1980 album, Rock and Roll and Love and Death is not even available on their site but, you can get it used on Discogs.  So, anyway, this is pretty obscure.  We chose this song, Let Go Tonight, because it is the only one we have ever bothered to listen to off this album that we have no idea how we acquired.  But, also, because it is a super catchy little new Wave ditty and kinda kinky, too.  It is uncertain just what they won’t “let go tonight” and the song is somewhat grammatically confusing as well.  It is definitely about sex though, weird sex: “I’ve got a love that’s burning, It’s burning right out of control, I’ll satisfy your yearning, just me and you and these other boys that you know”  goes the inescapable ear worm of a chorus.  So, yeah weird.  But, as long time Imaginary Readers know, we love weird and hope you do too.

Vince Guaraldi Sings!

Video of the Day:
Vince Guaraldi – Joe Cool

The YouTubes claim this is Vince on vocals.  We have some doubts about that but, we do love the song.  And, Snoopy.   Enjoy.

Bonus:

Supposedly Mr. Guaraldi is also the vocalist on this one.  Once again, we cannot verify that but, still we love it.

It’s Everything You Do And Nothing That You Did

Song of Day:
Ozark Mountain Daredevils – Black Sky

The Real OMD is not some wimpy Synth-Pop band but, these lovable dirt hippies from back home!  Black Sky is one of our favorite Ozark Mountain Daredevils songs, even if we can’t quite suss the meaning from the evocative puzzle lyrics.  It’s from their classic, eponymous 1973 debut album and gives us a warm glow like an old wood stove whenever we hear it.  Hope y’all like it too.

Not THAT Fleetwood Mac

Song of the Day:
Fleetwood Mac – Tell Me All The Things You Do

There has been a band called Fleetwood Mac for a long time – it’s just not always the same band.  This groovy guitar rocker off 1970’s Kiln House  is from the Mac Mk II, say – from just after founder Peter Green left the group and just before Christine McVie officially joined (she does sing background on some songs).  Written by guitarist Danny Kirwan, it has a great guitar line and  is one of our favorite Mac songs of any era.  Enjoy.

Thick with Mysterious Onions

Video of the Day:
Peter Serafinowicz – Gravies of the Ancients

What can we say?  This just cracks us up.

(This is from the guy who stars as The Tick in the new Amazon series, which we recommend.)

If You Never Saw Lynyrd Skynyrd…

Song of the Day:
Drive-By Truckers – Let There Be Rock

Let’s start the week off right with a Killer Cut from one of the greatest Rock Albums of the last 25 years!   Patterson Hood‘s Let There Be Rock is not just a sterling tribute to Classic Rock and growing up as a hard core Classic Rock fan but, also a great song in it’s own right, able to stand among the greats he mentions in the lyrics (and, a damn site better than some of them: 38 Special, meh).  And, if you call yourself a Rock fan and you still have not heard the Drive-By Truckers‘ stunning 2001 Southern Rock Opera, shame on you!  Go get it right now, we’ll wait…

There, don’t that make you feel much better?  We knew that it would.

Everybody’s Doin’ It and Deep Down Everybody Knows They Should

Song of the Day:
Captain Beefheart – Low Yo Yo Stuff

Strangely enough, Captain Beefheart has been coming up a lot recently at the Infinite Jones compound, so we thought we would feature another of our favorites of his as today’s Song of the Day!  This is from the Cap’s 1972, Ted Templeman produced Clear Spot  LP.  Even with Templeman at the console this is hardly the Doobie Brothers.  But, it is a great song with a low-down groove and a salaciously groovy message.  Enjoy.

A Different Kind of Friday

Bonus Friday Song:
Yo La Tengo – Friday I’m in Love

OK, we did The Cure’s version of this last week but, while this Yo La Tengo version is not that different musically (they Yo La Tengo it up with some extra wistful melancholy, of course), the Video is a weird apocalyptic kind of anti-Friday thing.  Watch, you’ll see.  And, once again, we hope you have a better Friday than this.
