They Want Theirs

Song of the Day:
Crack the Sky – We Want Mine

Crack the Sky have had enough of the Haves always getting all the good stuff.  This grammatically questionable demand for their fair share from the 1976 Animal Notes album is a tough, tight Pop Prog Nugget that should be better know than it is.  The Wiki claims it was a complaint against their record label for not giving them royalties but, it also works as a pretty catchy protest against income inequality that is still timely today.

Long & Hard

Song of the Day:
Mitch Ryder – Long Hard Road

This funky Mitch Ryder jam about the difficulty of the Rock and Roll Lifestyle is apparently pretty rare.  We have it in a vinyl rip from an also pretty darn rare compilation album called Michigan Rocks but, otherwise we can’t identify an original album or a year of release.  All we know for sure is that it has a great bass line, some cool guitars and, it Rocks!   We love it. Hope you do too.

AKIIIIRA!!!

Video of the Day:
Akira Kurosawa by the Ben Miller Band

Both the song and video (an expertly edited collection of classic Kurosawa clips) make a fine tribute to the Japanese Master Director.  The Ben Miller Band kicks it and will have you pumping your fist and chanting AkIIIIra Kurosawa! by the time they are through.  Which is kind of a cool and unexpected thing to have happen, we have to admit.

Cracks

Song of the Day:
David & David – Swallowed by the Cracks

Did you ever have one of those days when it seems that life has passed you by and your dreams are both faintly ridiculous and, worse, unattainable?  David & David both know how you feel.  This beautiful loser anthem from their 1986 Boomtown album is another one of our Theme Songs here at Infinite Jones.  (What? Theme songs don’t have to be uplifting.)   It’s a fine tune to have stuck in your head on that long slide to oblivion.  Happy Monday.

Revelations

Song of the Day:
Fugi – Revelations

These are the Days of Revelation!  So says Fugi, and so say we, ain’t it always?  Fugi is mainly the work of one Ellington Jordan a producer (for Chess Records) and songwriter (he was a co-writer of I’d Rather Go Blind).  His lone album as Fugi, Mary Don’t Take Me on No Bad Trip (1968) features the also obscure but, wildly funky Chess band, Black Merda as back-up and is a Psychedelic-Soul Gem.  It’s a bit rough around the edges but, that definitely adds to it’s charm.  So dig it and let Fugi help you “get your mind together”!

Till the Cows Come Home

Song of the Day:
The Tailgators – Rock and Roll Till the Cows Come Home

Powered by leader Don Leady’s scratchy, chunky guitar and a rockin’ beat this backwoods jammer from the Tailgators‘ 1985 Swamp Rock album really will make you wanna Rock and Roll till the cows come home (we assume this is around 11:30PM, or so – we ain’t no spring chickens you know).  A great song for a Saturday night.  Guaranteed to make beer taste better and Monday seem farther away.  Enjoy.

Get Down Friday Night

Song of the Friday:
The Fantastic Aleems featuring Leroy Burgess – Get Down Friday Night (John Morales Mix)

The Internets give little info about these guys and what is there is sometimes contradictory.  Get Down Friday Night was released in either 1981 or 1982.  Sometimes it is spelled Nite.  It seems the Aleems are brothers, possibly twins, maybe friends with Jimi Hendrix(!?!)  The most info we could find is at Discogs, here.  All we know for sure about this kinda weird old skool Jammer is that they want us to Get DOWN!  And, sometimes that is good enough for a Friday Night.  So, whatta ya waiting for?  Crank it UP and get DOWN!
