Electric Women Who Rock And Roll

Song of the Day:
Banastre Tarleton – Electric Women

Here is an exceedingly rare one from 1979 (probably).  It has no listing a the venerable AllMusicGuide and Discogs states it was released without a label.  All the hazy memory of our College Days can tell you is that we think this band was from maybe, Kansas City – probably, somewhere in Missouri at least.  But, whatever it’s provenance, this slinky, little ear worm about Electric Women who both Rock AND Roll is a long time fave.  We hope you like it, too.

We’ll Have What Al Green’s Having!

Video of the Day:
Al Green Sings Belle live!

Whatever substance Al Green used to achieve his performance here (no judgement), It really worked.  Hell, it may have just been the Holy Ghost but, whatever it was, Al  is Positively Ecstatic!  The title track from his 1977 self-produced The Belle Album is already perfect in it’s original version (listen below) but, this takes it to a whole ‘nother level!  This video is pretty low quality but, the energy and daring of the performance more than make up for it.  Ladies and Gentleman:  Mr. Al Green!

Love Ritual

Song of the Day:
Al Green – Love ritual (Bwana Mix)

Al Green’s manically funky Love Ritual is a JAM that makes it on to a lot of Infinite Jones’ Party Mixes.  The slightly rare, nearly unhinged Bwana Mix, first released  on CD in 1989, is our preferred version but, the original from 1975’s Al Green is Love is also pretty good.  Enjoy them both.

All This Making Love

Song of the Day:
Bee Gees – All This Making Love

Here’s a tough, twisted little ditty from the Bee Gees somewhat underrated 1975 comeback album Main Course that we bet most will be unfamiliar with.  It’s an unexpectedly perverse tale about the dangers of Obsessive Love Making from the previously wholesome Brothers Gibb.  Their trademark endearingly freaky harmonies add to the tension of the tune – all build up and no release but, still with enough clever craftsmanship and Pop hooks to make it irresistible.  Irresistible to weirdos like us anyway.  We hope you can dig it too.

It’s His Slippery Fingers, That’s All

Song of the Day:
Nils Lofgren and Grin – Slippery fingers

Long time E Street Band member and vastly underrated solo artist, Nils Lofgren slides his Slippery Fingers all over his guitar to make us (and himself) very happy. Thanks, Nils!  This little ditty is from one of his best albums 1+1, released in 1972 and featuring his early band Grin.

Monday (Everytime I Turn Around)

Song of the Day:
The Bottle Rockets – Monday (Everytime I Turn Around)

The Bottle Rockets hail from Festus, MO which is just up the road from the original Infinite Jones HQ so, we feel like they are old friends and good neighbors.  Here is a great Monday song from their fine 2015 album South Broadway Athletic Club.  Enjoy.

Havin’ Fun

Song of the Day:
Havin’ Fun by Memphis Slim (1950)

“The greatest thing under the sun is havin’ fun,” sings Memphis Slim in this bleak, bleary, beautiful blues classic.  It’s not a party song.  Although the lyrics extol the virtues of partying, the fun part seems more of a bittersweet memory that a current condition.  Still there are some joys in the recollection of good times and this song  is perfect for late night reveries of your own.  Enjoy with a side of bourbon.
